The best thermos bottle made will not keep coffee hot or lemonade cold if you neglect to tighten the cap. This is true for your home too. The L.R. (leak ratio) for your home is obtained by dividing the leakage area (the sum of the leaks in the building shell) by the area of the building shell. A leak ratio of "0" means the home has no leaks. Studies show that a home insulated with cellulose (walls, under floors and attic) will have a leak ratio of about "2" compared with "6" for homes insulated with batt insulation. Tests show that a reduction of more than 50 percent in space heating bills is possible when Cellulose Insulation is used in conjunction with devices such as high efficiency furnaces and low-E windows.
The "Lip Stitch" technique wraps the face of each stud to prevent cross migration of cellulose fiber. This technique results in drum skintight poly and eliminates pillowing.
Top plates and bottom plates are lip stitched in the same manner as vertical studs. The staples draw the par/PAC poly in drum skintight. Par/PAC poly comes in 200' rolls, 8'2", 9'2" and 10'2".
Small areas under or above windows etc. can be easily accessed and blown with Cellulose insulation to a 3# non-settling density. Seal the access point with high quality sealing tape to restore the vapor air barrier.
Electric outlets are taped off with duct tape prior to installing par/PAC polyester tire cord vapor barrier. After the barrier is installed, circle the electrical boxes with a magic marker to find them after the wall is blown.
Under floors and flat ceilings can be lip stitched and blown before "rock" is hung or attic can be insulated before rock is hung eliminating call backs.
Outside walls where electrical entry is located can now be totally air sealed and insulated with the par/PAC Dry Pac Total home Insulation System.
